[New Publication] Prof. Hyuna Lee (Dept. of Social Welfare) Co-authors Welfare Theological Perspectives on Disability in the Age of Technological Revolution

Prof. Hyuna Lee of the Department of Social Welfare has co-authored and published a new book titled Welfare Theological Perspectives on Disability in the Age of Technological Revolution, alongside Professors Junwoo Lee, Deokyoung Seo, Eunyoung Hwang, Seongsu Hong, Changhyun Hong, and Jongmi Park.

This book highlights the urgent need for biblical and theological responses to newly emerging forms of disability - such as social isolation and challenges in acquiring digital literacy - amidst the rapid social shifts of today's technological revolution. Grounded in an integrated perspective of disability theology and social welfare, the authors present a welfare-theological discourse on disability that advocates for the rights of individuals with disabilities. Building upon the theoretical paradigms of welfare theology, the book shapes a biblical narrative around disability and reflectively applies it to various human service sectors, including social welfare, therapy, rehabilitation, and counseling, to explore new directions for practice.

Furthermore, the authors contemplate ways for individuals experiencing these disability phenomena to live abundant and virtuous lives as members of the Kingdom of God. They critically reflect on issues of interpretive power and stigmatization that can arise in human service practices, urging respect for and recognition of the lived experiences of the individuals themselves. This endeavor also seeks to inherit the prophetic role of Old Testament prophets, carrying their message forward through modern welfare theology.

In this volume, the seven co-authors unpack distinct narratives on disability, each drawing from their respective fields of research.
