Personal Interview
Each applicant is normally required to have a personal interview with a team of faculty members. All applicants will be notified of the time for this interview.
Requirement for International Applicants
All international students must demonstrate English proficiency in order to attend World Mission University. A minimum TOEFL score of 500 (or 173 on the computer-based TOEFL) is required for all international applicants. Students without an official TOEFL score may waive this requirement by passing the English Diagnostic Test with a minimum passing score of a ¡°C.¡± Students who do not pass this test are required to take a minimum of 18 hours of ESL during their first semester at WMU.
Health Insurance
Every student must have health insurance for registration. All full-time students (9 hours or more for graduate students; 12 hours or more for bachelor students) are required to have health insurance. All international students are required to have proof of insurance and medical examination, regardless of the number of hours or degree status. International students are required to insure all of their dependents accompanying them to the United States.
Admissions Categories
In addition to regular admission, students may be accepted in other categories:
Provisional Acceptance: A student who cannot complete the admission file before the deadline is accepted with full benefits of the school for one semester. This restricted status allows the student the opportunity to complete the admission file. If the student fails to move to the full acceptance status within one semester, he or she will be dismissed.
Probationary Acceptance: A student who does not meet the normal academic standards, but with a strong indication for academic success can be accepted on probationary status. The student is granted one year to achieve the academic level necessary to move to full acceptance.
Ability to Benefit
Given the fact that some students may not have obtained the appropriate degree qualifications for admissions to a program, WMU may consider them for admission on an individual basis. In such cases, letters of reference must show evidence that the applicant can benefit from the educational program. The applicant must also submit an essay describing his or her Christian experience and have a personal interview with the Chief Academic Officer. With the agreement of the Admission Committee, he/she may enroll under the conditions of the Ability-to-Benefit provision. However, the number of such students accepted is strictly limited. Those who are admitted under the conditions of the Ability-to-Benefit need to work closely with their academic advisor. Candidates for graduate programs must have at least three years of full-time ministry experience.
Foreign Students and Visas
WMU is authorized by the U.S. Government to issue the I-20 form for visas from foreign countries. Once the foreign applicant is accepted, WMU will send various documents including the I-20 form. Foreign students must enroll as full time students, which means a graduate student must take 9 or more semester hours per semester and an undergraduate student must take at least 12 semester hours. Please direct other questions relating to foreign students to the Director of International Students.
Spiritual Requirements
All applicants must be born-again Christians demonstrating excellent Christian behaviors. They also need to be suited for Christian service and be capable of spiritual discipline. Applicants addicted to alcohol, smoking, or any other drugs are not accepted at WMU.
Non-discriminatory Policy
WMU seeks a diverse student body. Everyone has equal opportunity and access in WMU¡¯s educational programs and activities. The school does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, age, sex, physical condition, or national origin. Non-discriminatory policies apply to the admissions policy, educational programs, employment, and all other activities that WMU provides.
WMU complies with the provision of Title VI of the Civil Rights Acts of 1964, Title IX of the Education Amendment of 1972, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Age Discrimination Act of 1975.
